Issue

Blu-Ray Player cannot connect to the internet (network) wirelessly or wired.

Resolution

The following procedure oulines how to properly configure and connect your Blu-Ray player to the network wirelessly or wired for an internet connection.

NOTE: The following procedures are performed on Toshiba Blu-Ray Disc Player BDX2150 with Toshiba USB Wifi Adapter for Toshiba Blu-Ray Disc Players (WLM-10NB1) connected. Though the menus may vary, other models are similar in operation.

Wi-Fi vs. Wi-Fi Ready Players

Wi-Fi Connection

Wi-Fi Blu Ray players have a built in receiver to connect to your wireless router (access point in the below example). Wi-Fi Ready Blu Ray players require the purchase of a separate USB Wifi Adapter (Part No. WLM-10NB1) that plugs into the USB port on the rear of the player and allows connection to your router wirelessly.

NOTE: Toshiba USB Wifi Adapter for Toshiba Blu-Ray Disc Players (WLM-10NB1) is available for purchase HERE through Toshiba Direct.

NOTE: Both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Ready Blu Ray players have a USB port located on the rear. Verify your model number is a Wi-Fi Ready version before purchasing a Wi-Fi Adapter.

Wireless Connection

Wired Connection

Both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Ready Blu Ray players have the ability to be connected to the network through the LAN (wired ETHERNET) connection located on the rear.

Procedure

Before attempting to connect to the network wirelessly or wired, ensure the following parameters are met:

  • The modem or wireless router is working and properly connected to other devices (laptops, tablets, etc...) allowing internet access.
    • You must use a wireless router that supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n. (n is recommended for stable operation of the wireless network.)

NOTE: Wireless LAN, in its nature, may cause interference, depending on the use condition (AP performance, distance, obstacle, interference by other radio devices, etc.).

  • Set the wireless router to Infrastructure mode. Ad-hoc mode is not supported. Refer to your wireless routers manual for details.
  • You have the SSID and Security Key for the network (wireless router) you want to connect to.
    • When applying the security key for the wireless router, only the following is supported.
      • Authentication Mode : WPAPSK, WPA2PSK
      • Encryption Type : WEP, TKIP, AES
  • On Wi-Fi Ready Players, after you have verified your model number is Wi-Fi Ready and you have purchased a Wi-Fi Adapter, connect the Wi-Fi Adapter to the USB port located on the player.

Connecting Wirelessly

Easy Setup

NOTE: On Wi-Fi Ready players, ensure the Wi-Fi Adapter is connected.

1. Turn the TV and Blu-Ray player ON.

2. Your Blu Ray player may display a message similar to "Your BD Player does not seem to have a properly configured internet connection... red button to configure your network connection." If your player does not display this type of message or prompt you to set up your wireless connection, go to MANUAL SETUP procedure to manually setup your wireless connection.

Wired Connection

Your Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Ready Blu-ray Disc™ player can be connected to your home network by connecting an Ethernet cable to the ETHERNET jack on the rear of your player and to a wired hub or router. Using a wired network provides the best performance, because the attached devices connect directly to the network and are not subject to radio frequency interference by connecting through the built-in wireless device and a wireless access point or router.

1. Turn the TV and Blu-Ray player ON.

2. Your Blu Ray player may display a message similar to "Your BD Player does not seem to have a properly configured internet connection... red button to configure your network connection."

Blu-Ray_Connection_3

3. Connect an Ethernet cable (CAT5 or better with RJ45 connector) to the ETHERNET jack on the back of your player and to an Ethernet jack on a hub or broadband router. The Player will automatically configure the connection.

NOTE: Do not connect a modular phone cable to the ETHERNET jack. When plugging or unplugging the cable, hold the connector on the end of the cable. When unplugging, do not pull on the cable. Press down the lock tab and pull the connector out of the jack. Because there are various connection configurations, follow the instructions from your telecommunication carrier or Internet service provider.

4. When successfully connected, ETHERNET CONNECTED will be displayed.

Ethernet_Connected

NOTE: After being connected to the network using an Ethernet cable, when disconnected for any reason, ETHERNET DISCONNECTED will be displayed along with the message similar to "Your BD Player does not seem to have a properly configured internet connection... red button to configure your network connection" will reappear.
