- Information
- If you receive an error message saying "Error writing to LPT1" or "LPT1 is used by another device" while trying to print, but the computer will print fine with certain kinds of printers, check for the following lines in SYSTEM.INI:
[386Enh]
device=cis1284.386 <--- Canon Multipass
device=Lex01.386 <--- Lexmark
device=Lexsw2.386 <--- Lexmark
device=Okiport.386 <--- Okidata laser printers
device=Sumovmi.386 <--- Panasonic KXP-6100 laser printer
device=vcpd.386
device=vecpd.386 <--- Netscape Navigator
These are the 3rd-party device drivers that are loaded in SYSTEM.INI that will hold on to the LPTx port. Rem these lines out by putting a semicolon (;) in front of them and restart the computer. The printer should be fully functional now.
Note: these lines may look different for different printers. For instance, another model of Lexmark printer would be Lexsw2.386. Therefore try to locate anything that looks like a printer driver.
