Issue
Installation of Iomega USB Zip 100 under Windows 98.
Procedure
Perform the following procedure without the Zip drive connected to the system.

Note: Make sure that the USB port is configured. Please see the "Comments" section below for additional information.

  1. Insert Iomegaware CD into the CD-ROM drive. If it does not autoplay, complete the following steps:
    1. Double click on "My Computer" icon.
    2. Double Click on CD-ROM drive icon. It will have an "Iomegaware" label.
    3. Double click on "setup.exe" and proceed to step 2.
  2. Welcome to Iomegaware Setup – Getting Started screen. Click on "Next" to proceed.
  3. Iomega Setup - Software License Agreement screen comes up. Click "Yes" to proceed. Note: You may get a "Warning" screen if the Iomegaware setup detects that the USB controller does not meet the v1.1 specification. The message will give a warning message not to connect low speed and high speed USB devices on the same controller. Click "OK" to proceed.
  4. Iomega Setup – Guest window opens and shows as setup runs through the following:
    1. Examining your system
    2. Copying Iomega files Note: You may get a Version Conflict window stating that the D395.MPD file being copied is older than the installed version. If so, click on "Yes" to keep the newer version. The installation will continue.
    3. Updating system configuration
    4. Reserving drive letters
    5. Assigning drive letters
  5. Iomega Software dialogue box comes up giving the option to select what software to install. The default items selected are Driver and Tools (grayed out), Copy Machine, 1 Step Backup for Iomega Drives, and RecordIt. The only item required for the Zip drive to work is the driver and tools. Select items that you wish to install and click Next to accept the default directory of C:\Program Files\Iomega\Tools.
  6. Setup will create folders, copy files, and create short cuts. When the Set up Complete dialogue box comes up the default of "Yes, I want to restart my computer now ", select the option "No, I will restart my computer later" and click on "Finish".
  7. The Iomega Registration screen comes up with the option to "Skip Registration" or to select an option for registration (Internet using my Web browser, Send information by email, Send information by modem, Print a form for faxing, or Print a form for mailing) and then click on "Next" to continue the registration. During the test I did not register the product and selected "Skip Registration".
  8. Cancel Registration window opens with a choice of three buttons. They are "Yes", "Other options..." and "No".
    1. "Yes" – If selected you will proceed to the next step and be reminded to register in two weeks.
    2. "Other options..." – If selected you will be asked "Are you sure you want to skip registration? The choices are " Remind Me", "Never Register" and "Register Now".
  9. When setup completes, choose Start/Shutdown/Shutdown and click OK to shutdown system. Note: If you had the errors in step 4 the system will hang on the "Windows is shutting down" screen. Press the reset button to continue.
  10. Connect AC adapter to the Zip drive, AC adapter to power source, USB cable to Zip drive and the other end of USB cable to the system.
  11. Insert a Zip disk into the Zip drive and power on system.
  12. System will PnP the following devices: Iomega USB Mass Storage Class Driver, Iomega Win 98 USB Disk Controller, and Iomega Zip 100. As soon as Windows 98 finishes coming up the Zip drive will be ready to use.
  13. The Iomegaware software will have installed a couple of device drivers for devices that do not exist and they will need to be removed by following the steps below:
    1. Right/Bottom click on "My Computer" and Left/Top click on "Properties".
    2. Click on the "Device Manager" tab.
    3. Listed under "SCSI controllers" you will see "!Iomega Click! Parrallel Port Interface" and/or "!Iomega Parrallel Port Zip Interface". They will have "!" indicating a conflict. This is because they do not really exist and the Iomega software installed the drivers in error. Caution: if you use either of these Iomega devices do not proceed with their removal.
    4. To remove the "!Iomega Click! Parrallel Port Interface" or "!Iomega Parrallel Port Zip Interface" right/bottom click on it and left/top click on "Remove".
    5. Confirm Device Removal window will open. Click on "OK".
    6. Select the second of the two devices and remove following the same steps. Note: There may only be one of the devices listed.
COMMENTS: In Device Manager under Universal serial bus controller you will see either: "Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal host Controller" and a "USB root hub". Or "NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller" and a "USB root hub"

If these devices are not installed please contact Toshiba Technical Support for assistance.
