Issue


Update the Intel® Wireless driver and PROSet utility on the computer models listed above before installing Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), to prevent the computer from "locking up" as described below.

If you have already installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) on one of the models listed above, update the Intel Wireless driver and PROSet utility to fix the same problem.

Symptoms: After installation of Windows Vista Service Pack 1, computers in the Applicable Models list above may stop responding (may "lock up" or "hang") when the computer is started, when it's shut down, and / or after the Power Plan is changed from Balanced to Power Save and the AC adapter is disconnected.

The following newer versions of the Intel Wireless driver and PROSet utility prevent / fix this problem:

Intel PRO/Wireless driver, version 11.5.0.32 and Intel PRO/Wireless PROSet utility, version 11.5.0.0.3

This driver and PROSet software are for Windows Vista only.

Resolution

  • Update the Wireless LAN driver on all computers in the Applicable Models list above.

  • Update the PROSet utility also, for the following computer models:

Portege M700   Portege R500   Qosmio G40/G45   Tecra A9   Tecra M9

Procedure


PROSet utility un-installation
(for Portege M700, Portege R500, Qosmio G40/G45, Tecra A9, Tecra M9)

Before proceeding with the driver and PROSet installation, the existing PROSet utility must be un-installed (removed), as follows:

1. Click the Windows Start button, then Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features, Uninstall a program.

2. Click on Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software, then click the Uninstall/Change icon.

3. Click Remove, then click Next.

4. When the Intel PROSet/Wireless Installer window is displayed, choose "Save my profiles and settings in the current format", then click OK.

5. Once the un-installation is complete, restart the computer.


Driver installation (all computers in the Applicable Models list, above)

1. Download the 32-bit driver by clicking the following link. Save the file to the Windows Desktop.

32-bit Driver V11.5.0.32

   If you are sure that your computer is running the 64-bit version of Windows Vista, click the following link to download the 64-bit driver. Save the file to the Windows Desktop.

64-bit Driver V11.5.0.32

These driver versions are the newest available as of March 2008. Yet-newer versions may be available from the Toshiba Support Website, at pcsupport.toshiba.com.

2. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation.


PROSet utility installation  (for Portege M700, Portege R500, Qosmio G40/G45, Tecra A9, Tecra M9)

1. Download the 32-bit PROSet utility by clicking the following link. Save the file to the Windows Desktop.

   If you are sure that your computer is running the 64-bit version of Windows Vista, click the following link to download the 64-bit PROSet utility. Save the file to the Windows Desktop.

The computer should now be protected from the lock-up problem described in the Issue section above.
