Issue

An error message displaying the error code "F3-F100-0010" may occur on startup or at random times during normal use.  The computer may Blue Screen then reboot after this error code has been displayed.

Resolution

This message is often an indication that the computer is infected with malware, specifically a trojan virus.  Not all anti-virus applications will detect or able to remove the malware causing this error.   Applications such as Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool has been found to properly identify most viruses causing this error.  This tool can be downloaded directly from Microsoft.   Depending on the variant and level of infection an additional third party application may be needed to completely remove the threat.  Some variants of malware will intentionally damage the Master Boot Record (MBR) and intentially disable the notebook from booting into the operating system. 

Depending on the level of infection the system may require a system restore.  Several variants of the virus which cause this error message to occur will specifically infect and corrupt the MBR and the recovery partition on the hard drive.  If a system restore from the hard drive fails restoring the image from recovery disks will be required.

 

 

 

Procedure
