Step 2: Visit the Microsoft Compatibility Center for Windows 8 to see if your favorite apps and devices are compatible with Windows 8.

Step 3: View Information from Toshiba regarding any loss/limit of any features/functionality that may occur after your upgrade.

Step 4: Visit the Microsoft Windows 8 Upgrade offer web site to register and redeem your Windows 8 upgrade offer from Microsoft.

Step 5: Backup your data. If you need help click here or choose a Toshiba backup solution.

Step 6: Choose the type of Windows 8 installation and follow the instructions.

• Clean Install: Removes all programs and data files from your laptop, replacing them with a completely new installation of Windows 8
  1. Run the Windows 8 Upgrade that you redeemed from Microsoft in Step 4.
  2. Download, Install and Run the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant to guide you through the process of re-installing software and drivers.


• Upgrade install: Keeps Windows settings, personal files and applications.
  • If your computer is purchased after Jun 1, 2012 then download, install and run the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant to guide you through the process of upgrading to Windows 8.

Windows 8 hardware and software requirements

Minimum Windows 8 hardware requirements:

• Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
• RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
• Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
• Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Additional requirements to use certain features:

• To use touch, you need a tablet or a monitor that supports multitouch.
• To access the Windows Store and to download and run apps, you need an active Internet connection and a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768.
• To snap apps, you need a screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768.
