Issue

On June 22, 2018, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (“Toshiba”) announced a voluntary recall of certain DC-in plugs used in some AC Adapters due to a potential burn hazard.

Toshiba sold the affected DC-in plug as a part of AC adapters manufactured from December 2009 to July 2011 used with new laptops and as accessories or with replacement AC adapters in the course of repair. Toshiba is offering a free AC Adapter replacement for ones with the affected DC-in plugs.

Q1. Which Toshiba laptop models may be affected by the recall?
A: Certain Toshiba laptops or certain replacement AC Adapters manufactured between December 2009 and July 2011 may have an AC Adapter that may be subject to the recall. Q2. How can I find out if my AC Adapter is being recalled?
A: To determine if your AC Adapter is affected by the recall, go to https://acadaptercheck.toshiba.com, select your country and follow the listed instructions to perform a manual check. You will also find instructions on the website to locate your AC Adapter's part number & serial number.

Q3. If my AC Adapter is recalled, how much will the replacement cost?
A: Toshiba will replace recalled AC Adapters free of charge including shipping. 

Q4. Do I have to return my recalled AC Adapter?
A: If return of your old AC Adapter is requested, Toshiba will provide you with detailed instructions with each replacement AC Adapter. Otherwise, you must recycle your old AC Adapter in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Q5. Do I have to return my power cable that connects into the wall with the recalled AC Adapter?
A: No, Toshiba will only be replacing the affected AC Adapters.

Q6.  If my AC Adapter is recalled, how long will I have to wait for a replacement?
A: Delivery times may vary, but typically orders will be processed and shipped within 7-14 business days.

Q7. If my AC Adapter is recalled, may I continue using my laptop while I’m waiting for my replacement AC Adapter?
A: No, Toshiba recommends that you immediately turn off your laptop and wait until you receive a replacement AC Adapter.

Q8. Is it safe to use a Toshiba laptop AC Adapter on a plane? 
A: If your AC Adapter is affected by the recall, whether you are on an airplane or not, Toshiba recommends that you immediately turn off your laptop and wait until you receive a replacement AC Adapter.

Q9. Does the replacement AC Adapter have a warranty?
A: The replacement AC Adapter includes a 90-day limited warranty.

Q10. My computer is not affected by the recall program, why did I get the notification?
A: Your laptop model is on a master list of Toshiba worldwide models that potentially could have had an affected AC Adapter. Not all AC Adapters used on all models are affected. If the AC Adapter lookup process has indicated that your AC Adapter is not affected, you do not need to take any further action.
